Reyna Mendoza's cooking class



Enjoy the day in a hands-on cooking class at a private hacienda overlooking the Zapotec village of Teotitlan del Valle* with resident chef Reyna Mendoza and her team of local women cooks.

* Teotitlan del Valle is about 30 minutes outside the city of Oaxaca [MAP]


Reyna is a Teotitlan native who has an instinctual knowledge of the region's complex cuisine and in addition to her superb regional cooking prowess, she has studied with chef and cookbook author Ricardo Muñoz. You'll learn to make the delicate mole-filled tamales of Teotitlan, and get a unique, experiential understanding of the way that roasting and toasting brings salsas to exhilarating life.

Class (conducted in English or Spanish) starts at 10:00 am (until 2:00 pm). We’ll be glad to make reservations for you.

     TWO CLASS MENUS:


1. Hands-on tamal making class: Learn to make the 3 classic tamales of Teotitlan

2. Traditional squash blossom soup and Oaxacan mole

Cost of private class: $80.00 per person, minimum 4 persons
Cost includes printed recipes and sit down meal of the dishes prepared in class.
Transportation: $10.00 per person Oaxaca- Teotitlan roundtrip (depart from your hotel at 9:30 am and return around 2:30 pm)

Group class every Tuesday and Friday: $75.00 per person.
Cost includes printed recipes, sit down meal of the dishes prepared in class, roundtrip transportation Oaxaca- Teotitlan, and a tour in Teotitlan– famous for its centuries old weaving techniques – to see the beautiful rugs and meet the weavers. Transportation: $10.00 per person Oaxaca- Teotitlan roundtrip (depart from La Mano Magica gallery at 9:30 am and return around 2:30 pm)
